Event Overview

In China, Atelier Feichang Jianzhu's practice has witnessed a rapidly changing reality. In his talk, Mr. Chang will be highlighting the reality ofthe moment in four aspects: lifestyle, material, urbanity, and space-timeexperience and how they have impacted the studio's work. These observationswill be discussed with the support of recently completed and on-going projects of Atelier FCJZ.

在中国，非常建筑工作室的实践见证了一个迅速变化的时代。国际著名建筑师张永和将从工作室近期完成和正在进行的项目出发以阐述他对当下时代的观察，演讲将重点围绕以下四点:生活方式、材料、城市化和时空体验，以及它们对工作室工作的影响。 

About the Speaker

Yung Ho Chang, FAIA

Founding Partner and Principal Architect, Atelier FeichangJianzhu

Professor and Former Head, Architecture Department, MIT

Professor, Tongji University

Educated both in China and in the US, Chang received his Master of Architecture degree from the University of California at Berkeley in 1984. Since 1992, he has been practicing in China and established Atelier Feichang Jianzhu (FCJZ) with Lijia Luin 1993. He has won a number of prizes, such as First Place in the Shinkenchiku Residential Design Competition in1986, a Progressive Architecture Citation Award in 1996, the 2000 UNESCO Prize for the Promotion of the Arts, and the Academy Award in Architecture fromAmerican Academy of Arts and Letters in 2006, and 2016 China Architecture Media Award Practical Achievement Prize.  In 2019, FCJZ has been recognized as one of the100+ Best Architecture Firms 2019 by Domus magazine.  He has published a number of books and monographs, including Exhibition as Construction Experiment in English, World Architecture special issue – The Modernity of Making: Yung Ho Chang in Chinese/English, Yung Ho Chang / Atelier FeichangJianzhu: A Chinese Practice in English/French and Yung Ho Chang: Lucechiara, camera oscura in Italian. He participated in many international exhibitions ofart and architecture, including six times in the Venice Biennale since 2000. He has taught at various architecture schools in the USA and China; he was aProfessor and Founding Head of Graduate Center of Architecture at Peking University from 1999 to 2005; he held the Kenzo Tange Chair at the Harvard GSD in 2002 and the Eliel Saarinen Chair at Michigan in 2004.From 2011 to 2017, he was a Pritzker Prize Jury member.
